Terms of use

My website is what it is, as it is, and to continue using my website, you must read through this wall of text and accept it in its entirety. Unless otherwise defined, such as with opt-outs, everything applies to everyone.

Everything on my website is under copyright – being either my property or the property of another entity (third parties specified here) – and the illicit use of any such material is, well, illicit. This includes (but is not limited to) selling assets (icons, photos, audio clips, text) on my website, claiming or representing any part of my website as your own, and so on.

You may not not use my content in any way that infringes on my rights. Unless I give you permission, that is. Ask, and you might receive. No promises, though.

Any links on my website pointing to websites not under the aadolf.fi domain name (such as www.example.com/cute-cat-picture_4k.jpg) most likely do not belong to me, nor can I be held responsible for the security, content, privacy policies, nor practices of any such website or service.

What information do I collect from you?

Visitor IP, which is anonymised with ga('set', 'anonymizeIp', true); before being securely sent to Google.

I also use first-party cookies for some functions (‘wrong language?’ notification (if applicable), cookie consent, and Google Analytics), but this data is not stored on the server. It is saved on your data drive, from where it can be accessed for settings on my website.

A third-party element on my website might collect your information through cookies. Be sure to read any privacy policy statement of any such service. I cannot be held responsible for their actions and content.

Where is this data stored?

Server statistics data is stored on a secure server operated by Hostingpalvelu / Planeetta Internet Oy (Finnish business ID: 1753494-9).

Google Analytics data is tightly safeguarded by Google, Inc.

When and how is this information collected?

It begins when you connect to my website and ends when you leave it.

How do I use this information?

I look at it in moonlight. But I do not sell, trade, or give it away to anyone. That is to say, my server statistics are never disclosed to anyone. Google Analytics data will only be used for analytics and advertising. Again, this information is not personally identifiable. Unless men in blue come and request it and I am by law required to hand it over, it will not leave my hands.

Personal rights

Technically, you're allowed to request to view, and request the removal of, your own personal information on any records on file. Yes, I say “technically”. I can't show or remove personally identifiable information if I don't have it and can't connect it to you. So, there you have it.

Cookie policy

You can't generally eat these cookies. There are some known exceptions, though.

What are cookies?

Cookies are little files that are locally saved on your data drive. Unless you disable cookies or stay on your toes by getting a notification each time a page tries to save a cookie (see your browser settings), this usually happens without you ever knowing. Cookies are often used to save preferences, such as site settings or even the contents of your shopping cart in webstores. Depending on how cookies are used, they can also be used to track you across the Internet. Pretty scary, right? Not at all. While privacy is important to many people, cookies are completely harmless, and as I said before, can be turned off.

Turning cookies off will not have a negative effect on the usability of my website.

How do I use cookies?

I use cookies to save site settings, and for analytics & advertising.

Two cookies of my own making will not be saved unless a click action occurs. That is, if you click the "I accept" on the cookie consent bar, a cookie remembering your consent will be saved. If you see a grey bar asking if you are browsing in the wrong language and you click it or press X to close it, a cookie will be saved. When clicked, you will be redirected to the alternative language (currently only English and Finnish are supported, with no future plans for more languages), and you will never again receive the question. Page language can still be changed by clicking the flag icon in the header.

Google Analytics and third parties (list of current third-party services in use on the website) may also use cookies, and their usage depends solely on the cookie policies of the service providers.

• I use Google AdSense Advertising on my website

Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve adverts on my website. Google's use of the DART cookie enables it to serve adverts to based on previous visits to both my website and other sites on the Internet that employ Google's products.

I – along with third-party vendors such as Google – use first-party cookies (such as the Google Analytics cookies) and third-party cookies (such as the DoubleClick cookie) or other third-party identifiers together to compile data regarding user interactions with advert impressions and other advert service functions as they relate to my website.

• Opting out:

Users can set preferences for how Google advertises to you using the Google Ad Settings page. Alternatively, you can opt out by visiting the Network Advertising Initiative Opt Out page or by using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Assets and content that is the property of a third party

Access

I, of course, reserve the right to block your access to my website at any point, taking place immediately without prior notice. Good reasons to do it include any malicious conduct towards me or my website, such as hacking attempts and denial-of-service attacks.

Unless expressly specified here, I am not affiliated with anyone. Here, on my website, I represent no-one but myself. All of my views and opinions are mine only, and do not reflect or represent the views of anyone else. These views and opinions may be biased, but they are honest, and not paid for in any way. You read correctly: I will not not write honestly, even if you pay me. Wait, that may come across as confusing. Let me try again: You cannot buy my opinion.

I also will not affiliate myself with any entity – like a company or a person – I do not trust. Secondly, I reserve the right to terminate any dealings and affiliation with such entities should they lose my trust. This may involve removing any outbound links to as well as mentions of etc. the entity in question.

Changes to these terms and policies

I hold the right to modify these terms within my discretion. Correcting typographical errors and wording cannot be considered modification unless the meaning of the edited property changes.
